Bia Analytical Ltd is seeking a highly motivated Laboratory Technician to join our growing analytical science team in Belfast. This full-time position offers the opportunity to contribute to the development and delivery of innovative food authenticity testing methods, using advanced spectroscopy, chemometrics, and data analytics. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the daily operation of our laboratories, ensuring the highest standards of scientific integrity, efficiency, and compliance.
Bia Analytical specialises in food authenticity testing and have developed novel laboratory-based and portable food authenticity testing services using spectroscopy and chemometric model interpretation to test the authenticity of a range of food products. Our services are helping protect the global food supply chain against food fraud.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Plan and carry out day-to-day laboratory activities in consultation with senior scientists, including sample receipt, preparation, analysis, and data entry.
2. Prepare and analyse samples using a range of analytical and spectroscopic techniques following ISO 17025 quality standards.
3. Ensure accurate sample logging, chain-of-custody tracking, and secure data management.
4. Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments as required.
5. Maintain clean, organised, and safe laboratory workspaces, ensuring compliance with all health, safety, and quality protocols.
6. Support the development, validation, and improvement of analytical methods and procedures.
7. Work as part of a team to deliver on key deliverables in a time pressured setting.
8. Contribute to the documentation and continuous improvement of laboratory processes and quality records.
9. Monitor laboratory consumables and equipment, reporting inventory and maintenance needs to the line manager.
10. Participate in internal and external training to develop technical and quality knowledge.
11. Perform other duties as required to support laboratory and company objectives.
Essential Criteria
1) Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences, Food Science, Analytical Chemistry or a closely related discipline.
2) Candidates must have the legal right to work in the UK at the time of application.
3) Demonstrate a strong work ethic and self-motivation.
4) Excellent communication and organisational skills.
5) Proficiency in Microsoft software, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
6) Ability to work as part of a team.
7) Show excellent attention to detail.
8) Flexible approach to change.
