Bia Analytical receive 6 nominations at Lab Awards 2025
Bia Analytical are delighted to announce that we have been shortlisted as finalists for 4 awards with a total of 6 nominations at this year’s Lab Awards.
The Lab Awards is the annual celebration for the lab community, powered by Lab Innovations and Laboratory News. It recognises achievements and successes in individuals, labs and suppliers during 2025.
We’re shortlisted in the following categories:
Research Project Award
- Bia Analytical Ltd – Portable Food Integrity Testing. The Biametric portable device revolutionizes food integrity testing by creating a portable, user-friendly screening tool that uses spectroscopy, chemometrics, and cloud technology. It advances scientific innovation through miniaturization and integration, empowers non-experts with accessible methods, and bridges research with commercial application, boosting global food authenticity and demonstrating scalable, real-world impact.
- Bia Analytical Ltd – Rapid identification of soya origin to aid EUDR compliance. As part of the Innovate UK-funded project Generative AI ChatBots for Data Driven Productivity and Efficiency in Agri-Food, Bia Analytical led the scientific development of a rapid test to determine the country of origin of soya beans with the aim to help the agri-food sector meet EUDR traceability requirements. In partnership with Foods Connected, Finnebrogue, and Queen’s University Belfast, this cross-sector collaboration exemplifies how innovation and shared expertise can address global regulatory challenges.
Rising Star
- Dr. Stephanie Heaney – Bia Analytical. Stephanie holds a BSc in Food Quality, Safety and Nutrition and a PhD from Queen’s University Belfast. A standout achievement is her leadership in the soya traceability project, a high-impact initiative aimed at supporting compliance with the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) by developing a portable, rapid testing method to determine country of origin to enhance supply chain transparency.
Lab Technician of the Year
- Eve Logan – Bia Analytical Ltd. Eve holds an IBMS-accredited BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science with a Diploma in Professional Practice from Ulster University. At Bia Analytical, Eve has mastered a wide range of analytical tools, including FTIR, NIR, XRF, and REIMS and has been involved in processing thousands of samples and helping expand both lab-based and portable food authenticity testing. Eve also mentors MSc students, sharing her expertise and fostering technical competence
- Radhika – Bia Analytical Ltd. Radhika holds an MSc from Queen’s University Belfast and a BSc from Amity University, India. Her academic background includes impactful research on turmeric adulteration aligned with the EU’s FoodSafeR program, where she applied XRF and ICP-MS technologies to build calibration models and improve analytical methodologies. Radhika’s technical proficiency spans FTIR, NIR, and REIMS. Her work on the soya traceability project involved scanning global samples to support origin determination.
Best Automation & Data Innovation
- Bia Analytical – Biametric Portal & Risk Dashboard. The Biametric Portal began as a proof of concept to standardise how lab technicians ran predictive models, which were previously reliant on personal laptops and prone to inconsistency. It rapidly evolved into a broader digital solution, transforming how testing is performed, centralising and automating complex processes while maintaining rigorous standards. It improves accuracy, enhances lab productivity, and opens new opportunities for scale and collaboration in the food authenticity space.
The event itself will be held in Birmingham on 29th & 30th of October, with the winners revealed live on Day 1 of Lab Innovations at 3:30 PM on the Future of Laboratories Stage. We’re honoured to be in the running, keep your fingers crossed for us!
